Host the Perfect 4th of July BBQ

If you’re anything like me and enjoy entertaining, you are also getting ready to host a 4th of July BBQ. Here I’ll share how easy it is to transform your backyard with beautiful, simple and inexpensive decorations.

Dinner Table

Setting the table is one of my favorite things to do when hosting. I love playing around and getting creative. Since we’re celebrating Independence Day, I went with the obvious color scheme of red, white and blue. I started by bringing out my striped table linen. I then opted for my everyday outdoor dinner plates and added blue outdoor salad plates. To add a little pop of color, I incorporated red place mats and completed the setting with beige napkins. I then created a simple centerpiece with tulips. To be a bit festive, I also added two small American flags, which tied everything together. Now, we are off to a good start.

Decorations

Decorating doesn’t have to break your wallet or be stressful. Try buying inexpensive items; you can’t have too many paper fans, flags or wreaths. A simple bunting in red white and blue can also turn anything into a masterpiece. Pro Tip: If you shop a week or two before, you’ll find great deals. I found all of my 4th of July decorations for 60% off at Michael’s.

Dessert Decor

Add a little glamour to your dessert table with festive toothpicks, cupcake liners, and cupcake toppers. You can find these items at Party City, Michael’s, Amazon or your local crafts store. You can even make them on your own by printing shapes on cardstock, cutting them out and taping to the tops of toothpicks. This can be a fun project to do with young children. Opt for a berry cake, it is perfect for summer and goes well with your red, white and blue theme.

Create a Bar Menu

Having a few signature drinks on the menu other than beer and wine, makes it easier to manage the bar. My menu had a Berry Spritzer, a Raspberry Mimosa and a Blueberry Margarita. Decorating the bar is also a cute idea. Adding a pop of color is easy, just add some festive cocktail napkins, straws and add a few paper fans that match your theme.

Play Outdoor Games

Games like Corn Hole are always fun. It is the perfect backyard game for players of all ages. It is safe and fun, especially for a super competitive family like mine!

Food

Food is probably the most important thing when hosting a party. Our BBQ Menu will include… burgers, Italian sausage, ribs, bacon wrapped jalapenos, Mexican street corn, grilled asparagus and potatoes.

Have Fun!

You are now ready for the ultimate backyard barbecue. Just remember the most important thing is to have fun. When the host is relaxed and enjoying themselves, your guests will have a better time. Besides, you deserve it! Happy 4th!!
