About the Wine
Sequoia Grove is a family-owned winery located in Rutherford, Napa Valley. They create a world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and other Napa Valley wines that emphasize elegance, finesse, structure and balance. The 2015 harvest was one of the earliest years on record. The persistent California drought and cool spring during bloom led to low yields in the vineyard and an early bud break. Careful irrigation and canopy management were key and allowed their growers to maximize quality which created a beautifully ripe and balanced fruit. Their hard work and dedication resulted in 2015 being one of their best vintages.
84% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 2% Malbec, 1% Petit Verdot.
Winemaker Notes
On the nose this wine has notes of sweet vanilla, pepper and spice followed by blackberry, strawberry, and berry pie. On the palate the wine is round and full bodied with notes of red fruit and bright acidity. This wine will continue to age well for at least 10 years.
Food Pairings
This is a versatile food wine. It pairs well with any red meat on the grill, pork tenderloin, heavy cheeses and grilled vegetables.
The Wine Down
The quality of this wine is outstanding. The palate is layered and rich, with a silky long finish. Hands down, one of the best bottles I’ve had this year.
You can find this bottle for $50 which is very well priced. Similar wines cost 30 – 40% more.
If you’re ever in Napa Valley, make sure to visit Sequoia Grove. I highly recommend their Single Vineyard Tasting.
