2018 Bodegas El Nido Clio Jumilla Red Blend

About the Wine

The winery is located in the Valle de La Aragona, inside the Murcia district of Jumilla. The vineyards are 64 acres of old Monastrell vines, all head pruned and 45 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon planted 25 years ago. Monastrell, is the name given to Mourvedre grapes grown in Spain. Monastrell is a big wine with complex and deep flavors. This variety stands alone well as a delicious red, but is primarily used in blending. Monastrell accounts for more than 80% of the vines in this region, as it adapts well to the difficult climactic conditions.

The 2018 Clio is a blend of 70% old vines Monastrell and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon.

16% ABV

Tasting Notes

Dark cherry red, intense nose of ripe fruits and confit fruit mixed with sensations of toasted coffee and licorice which bring finesse and elegance. Strength, flesh, savory and opulence combine in the palate of this wine that little by little develops in the bottle.

Food Pairings

This wine is sometimes described as “gamey”, making wild game a perfect pairing. Also think grilled and/or herbed meats. Avoid dishes with too much spice as the alcohol will make your mouth and throat burn.

The Wine Down

This wine is well balanced and is ready to drink now, but definitely has potential to age a few more years.

You can find this bottle for under $50.00
