This bottle will go down as one of the most interesting Sauvignon Blancs I’ve ever tasted.
Hands down, Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday of the year. For me, Thanksgiving is much more than a big meal with family and friends. It’s a time to reflect on, and be thankful for all of the good things we have.. On a holiday like Thanksgiving, you may find it extremely difficult to find the perfect wine to serve with your dinner. Rather than trying to pair the wine with one dish, opt for bottles that complement a wide variety of foods.
The 2019 L’ Après-Midi Sauvignon Blanc is produced from grapes grown on the cool slopes along side of our Les Pavots Bordeaux red varietals. L’Après-Midi translates from French to “the afternoon.” A wine delicious and easy enough to drink anytime-for example, the afternoon. Sir Peter is fond of pointing out that it is always the afternoon somewhere in the world.
The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon from Groth were whole-cluster pressed which gives their juice an incredible amount of high fruitiness and softness. To fully integrate the flavors as early as possible, the Estate Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon were both co-pressed and co-fermented. After pressing and settling, the juice was moved to neutral oak barrels and stainless-steel tanks, put through a long, cool fermentation, and allowed to age "sur lie" for a total of threemonths in barrel. Malolactic fermentation was avoided to preserve the fruit. This pressing, combination of fermentation techniques, and aging program adds complexity to the aromas, flavors, and preserves the bright fruit and lively natural acidity that make this wine so refreshing and enjoyable.
